Native to Europe. Creeping, branched stems bear smooth leaves that give rise to clouds of inflated white
flowers that in turn become upright capsules filled with seeds. Heirloom rock garden plant. Edible leaves are
commonly used as a potherb in European cuisine. As an herbal remedy, used fresh in creams and lotions; dried
herb is a fumigant. The flowers are open all day but their clove-like scent is only emitted in the evening
attracting long tongued moths

|Sweet marjoram is the variety most are familiar with. Its leaves are used to add a distinctive strong, spicy flavor
to soups, sauces, stuffings, stews, sausages and meatloaf. Rubbing with fresh leaves before roasting improves all
strong meats. A must in German potato soup. White flowers.

long. They may reseed, coming back year after year, in spots where they're happy.

a mild tasting, and healthful salad.

|Meadowsweet was the key headache-busting ingredient from which aspirin was synthesized; Bayer
Pharma-ceuticals used dried meadowsweet leaves for its original methyl salicylic acid formulation. In Colonial
times, meadowsweet was used as an anti-inflammatory to reduce the symptoms of arthritis and rheumatism. And,
because the herb is gentle on the stomach, it also was used to treat stomach upsets, feverish colds, diarrhea and
heartburn. Cooks used the herb to flavor beers, meads and wines and added it to soups for an interesting almond
flavor. As a cosmetic, it was soaked in rainwater and used as astringent and skin conditioner.

|In the home wildflower or perennial garden, it is a delightful plant that blooms freely over a long period, makes a great
long-stemmed, interesting cut flower, and does well in that hot, dry, poor-soil area that nothing else seems to grow in.
It is yet another perennial member of the huge Aster family, and close relatives include sunflowers, black-eyed Susans,
shasta daisies, and purple coneflower, to name a few. Historically Mexican Hat has been used for its medicinal
properties. The Indians boiled leaves and flowers to make a tea to use externally on snakebites and to reduce
symptoms caused by poison ivy.
|Native to India. A multipurpose plant, its leaves, pods, fruits, flowers, roots and bark are beneficial in one way or
the other. To keep a smaller size, frequent pruning is necessary.

resembles that of the tropical tree orange bergamot, hence its name. Also known as bee balm, for bees and

leaf tips and flowers improve appearance and taste of salads.
